Astragard is a fictional location from the 1974 film, The Island at the Top of the World.
Astragard is a legendary isle located in the Arctic Ocean at the coordinates 85°N 67°W. It is a fabled location said to be where whales go to die and which was colonized by a nation of vikings who have been isolated from the rest of the world for centuries.
In the film, the island is found in 1907 by the Hyperion airship captained by one Captain Brieux. They do so to try and locate explorer Donald Ross who went missing on an nautical expedition to the island and who fell in-love with a viking woman upon it.
The explorer Captain Brieux has since been retconned into being a member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers.
Astragard would have been heavily featured in an attraction based on The Island at the Top of the World.
- In the original 1961 book The Lost Ones by Ian Cameron, Astragard's counterpart was the real-life Prince Patrick Island in Canada's Northwest Territories.
