Dr. Elsa Schneider is a character from the film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).
Dr. Elsa Scheider was an Austrian art-historian and archaeologist who became intent on acquiring the legendary Holy Grail of Arthurian myth. For this task, Elsa joined forces with evil billionaire Walter Donovan along with the Nazi party of Germany to manipulate one Dr. Henry Jones, Sr. into aiding them in finding the grail. When Jones, Sr. became less reliable for the task, Elsa moved to manipulating his son, archaeologist Indiana Jones.
Jones and Elsa made revelations about the grail's whereabouts with Jones not knowing about Elsa's nazi allegiances. The two began to have sexual relations before Jones found where the nazis were holding his father and Elsa revealed her true colours. Following this, the Jones boys escaped and partook in a race to the grail with the nazis.
This lead both parties to the Temple of the Sun in the Canyon of the Crescent Moon of Hatay where the nazis forced Indiana to retrieve the grail for them. When the nazis removed the grail from the temple's seal, it caused the temple to collapse and the grail to fall into a ravine. Obsessed with the past, Elsa attempted to retrieve the grail only to fall to her death despite Indiana having tried to save her.
Appearances and allusions
- Elsa might be the inspiration behind Dr. Rachel Flannery from the 2008 show Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Stone Tiger which was held in Disneyland's Adventureland. Flannery was a blonde woman archaeologist who disguised herself as an ally to Indiana Jones only to betray him for a magical artifact and fall to her death.
