The Earthquake of 1860 is the circumstantial name for an event from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Phantom Manor.

History[]

In 1849, Henry Ravenswood founded the town of Thunder Mesa and Big Thunder Mining Company in the Big Thunder Mountain region of Arizona. After 11 years of extortion at the hands of the mining company, the angered Spirit of Big Thunder caused an earthquake which hit Thunder Mesa.[1]

Around the time of the earthquake, an unidentified bandit was robbing Thunder Mesa's bank and got caught in a shoot-out with the town sheriff. This earthquake demolished much of Thunder Mesa and killed many notable members of the town, including Henry Ravenswood. Many of the town's mines were also demolished during the earthquake while a portion of the town on the side of Ravenswood Manor opposite to the river collapsed into the haunted, "Phantom Canyon". Amongst the buildings collapsed were the town's bank, hotel, saloon, town hall, assay, train depot, general store and apothecary.
