Iago is a character from the film Aladdin.
Iago was a parrot who served as the pet and henchman of the sorcerer Jafar, the grand-vizier of Agrabah's sultan. The two schemed to take over the kingdom by claiming the Genie of the Lamp and later by attempting to have Jafar marry the sultan's daughter Jasmine. Their plans were thwarted however by the heroic thief Aladdin who tricked Jafar into using the lamp to wish to become a genie himself, resulting in Iago and Jafar being trapped within their own lamp which was subsequently sent to the Cave of Wonders.
Appearances and allusions
Iago appeared as one of the two hosts in this defunct re-theming of Walt Disney World's Tropical Serenade (Enchanted Tiki Room). In it, he and Zazu from the Lion King signed up to be the new hosts and managers of the Enchanted Tiki Room. Iago decided to completely overhaul the show to fit his narcissistic needs much at the behest of Zazu, resulting in them angering the Tiki Gods. As a consequence of his actions, Iago was punished violently by the goddess Uh-Oa.
Iago briefly appears in this attraction, knocking the sorcerer's hat of the wizard Yen Sid off of Donald Duck's head.
In the Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen is a book titled, "A New Way to Manage Birds" by the, "I & Z Management Publications. This book references Under New Management and was likely written by Iago and Zazu.
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom
Iago is Jafar's henchman in the Adventureland sections of this attraction where the two team up with the god of the underworld Hades to assist in his attempted takeover of the Magic Kingdom. They are thwarted by the wizard Merlin and his apprentices however.
