Jungle River Cruise: Curse of the Emerald Trinity was an overlay of the Jungle River Cruise at Hong Kong Disneyland that ran nightly during the 2015 Halloween season. It featured a new story, centered on a disgraced member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, with a darker and scarier tone[1].

Background[]

Professor Garrett Reed was a disgraced professor, kicked out of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers. He was an alleged grave robber and thief, obtaining artifacts through unsavory means and selling them on the black market. He was on the hunt for the Emerald Trinity - a trio of enchanted emeralds said to grant men immortality - stealing a boat from the Jungle Navigation Company to travel deep into the jungle. Indiana Jones warned the archaeology community over his nefarious deeds, and Lord Henry Mystic expressed urgency over finding him and stopping him[2].

Sketches and newspaper articles about Professor Reed were scattered throughout the queue, explaining the backstory. Guests boarded their boats at the dock, as normal. The cruise was tasked with finding Professor Reed to stop the havoc in the jungle. The skipper was joined by an associate of Reed, acting as a navigator.

The jungle was changed, now covered in an eerie green fog and strangely illuminated. Vines grew near the elephant bathing pool, around rocks with glowing eyes printed on the front and skulls sitting on the top.

The boat quickly moved to the Temple of Immortality, where the Altar of Souls was located - the home of the Emerald Trinity. According to the legend, if one escaped the jungle with one stone, they would become immortal. If one failed, they would face a fate worse than death. Two of the emeralds had been stolen.

They moved further into the jungle, finally reaching Professor Reed’s camp, where he could have been seen as a shadowed silhouette in his tent. Sure enough, he had acquired one of the emeralds, and he took it out of his coat. Vines grew from the ground, attacking him and reclaiming the emerald. Reed screamed, as he was dragged into the ground.

Frightened by the display, Reed’s associate revealed that he or she had one of the emeralds, as well. The skipper drove the boat faster through the jungle, to make it back to the safety of the docks. The boat was attacked by zombies, hiding in the waters of the hippo bathing pool. A voodoo tribe stalked the boat, wanting to reclaim the stone. They barely escaped both attempts.

The boat came to a stop at the Canyon of the Gods. When the associate looked down, the stone had disappeared. The spirits of the stone bellowed, punishing the cruise for their theft with fire and water. The boat managed to survive the onslaught, and made it back to the docks safely, where guests disembarked[3].
