The Lost Delta Archaeological Expedition is a fictitious expedition from the story of Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye.
In 1935, archeologist Indiana Jones discovered the 2000 year-old Temple of the Forbidden Eye in the Lost Delta of India. Alongside his excavator friend Sallah Mohamed Faisel el-Kahir, Indiana established the Lost Delta Archaeological Expedition to excavate the ruins of the temple. Amongst the discoveries to be made within the temple, Jones was most interested in the, "Jewel of Power", the supposed power-source of the temple's goddess Mara.
The Lost Delta Expedition received additional assistance from British Colonial Affairs and the Jungle Navigation Company, both of which encouraged tours to be conducted in the temple for extra revenue. Reluctantly, Jones and Sallah established the company of, "Sallah Tours" to bring guests through the temple so the expedition could receive additional funds. Other parties who assisted the expedition included Jones' contemporary Marcus Brody from Marshall College, Jones' former mentor Abner Ravenwood in the Himalayas and the, "Jungle's Head Salesman" Trader Sam who was contacted to bring more guests to the temple.
In the late September/early October of 1935, Indiana Jones' rival archaeologist René Belloq learned of Jones' excavations and presumably travelled to the Delta. Around July 5 of 1936, Indiana Jones went missing within the temple. Jones was later found by a group of tourists sent by Sallah though they were chased by Mara through the temple and nearly killed.
Appearances and allusions
Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye
The Lost Delta Archaeological Expedition is highly active in the backstory and active story of this attraction, being Indiana Jones' team which works to uncover the Temple of Mara.
- The logo for the expedition was the Eye of Providence, also known as the all-seeing eye of God or The Illuminati. In the context of the expedition, this logo was likely used to represent the Forbidden Eye of the goddess Mara.
- Disney media has most notably used the eye for the likeness of the character Bill Cipher, the main-antagonist of the series Gravity Falls.
- The LDAE's jeep outside the attraction is an authentic prop from Raiders of the Lost Ark, having been originally used to portray a Nazi jeep. For obvious reasons, the jeep's swastika was replaced with the logo for the expedition.
