Ngendei is one of the Polynesian deities featured in Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room.

History[]

Mythology[]

Degei or Ndengei is the supreme god of Fiji who created the Fijian world, creatures, and peoples. He hatched from an egg when the first humans came to Earth and is often represented by a multi-headed serpent. This giant serpent had immense power which it used ambivalently, spending most of its time slumbering in the bedrock of the Earth where it inadvertently controls earthquakes, weather and the seasons. Degei is also considered to be the father of all snakes but has a more direct son in the form of Rokola, the god of boats.

Disney Parks[]

Ngendei is known as the Earth-Balancer and depicted as a humanoid man who balances the planet. However he has no control over the movements of the planet and is also frequently tormented by the volcano goddess Pele who creates volcanic activity which shakes his perch.
