The Queen Anne's Revenge from the films

In this film, the Queen Anne's Revenge was a vessel decorated with massive fire pits and human bones. The captain's cabin was decorated with stained-glass windows depicting the souls of the damned falling into Hell. The ship had blood-red sails, gibbets across it used for torture, and orifices in its side used to project Greek Fire as a weapon. The figurehead of the ship was a skeleton wielding a goblet and an axe while its Jolly Roger was a fanged skull with its mouth dripping in blood.

History[]

History[]

The Queen Anne's Revenge was christened under the name of La Concorde and was a French slaving-ship built around 1710. On the November 28 of 1717, la Concorde was captured by English pirate Edward "Blackbeard" Teach who renamed the vessel The Queen Anne's Revenge in reference to the War of the Spanish Succession AKA Queen Anne's War which many pirates were involved with.

Blackbeard used the Queen Anne Revenge as his flagship within his fleet of pirate vessels which made port in the Pirate's Republic of Nassau within the Bahamas. Over his career, Blackbeard also outfitted the vessel with heavier guns and more up-to-date resources for his crew. Blackbeard and his crew made many noteworthy victories aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, most famously being the raiding of Charleston Port in 1718.

Due to the King's Pardon of 1718 Blackbeard took two of his ships (including the Queen Anne's Revenge) and left the Caribbean to head North. The Queen Anne's Revenge was wrecked around Beaufort Inlet in North Carolina while Blackbeard himself was on his vessel The Adventure. The crew of the Queen Anne's Revenge was subsequently abandoned by that of the Adventure to die.

Blackbeard's Ghost[]

In this film, after being run-aground, the Queen Anne's Revenge was salvaged into a building by the remains of her crew on Godolphin in North Caroline. The vessel's wreckage was transformed into the Blackbeard's Inn which was an estate that would be passed down to the descendants of the pirate-ship's crew for decades to come. Around 1968, a ghost-ship resembling the Queen Anne's Revenge also appeared to bring the spirit of Blackbeard into the afterlife following his posthumous redemption.

Pirates of the Caribbean (film-series)[]

Blackbeard made many macabre and occult alterations to the Queen Anne's Revenge in these films. He could also control her telepathically through the usage of, "The Sword of Triton" which was a magical sword supposedly forged in Atlantis while also having her crewed by zombies he created via Haitian voodoo. This Queen Anne's Revenge was not wrecked in 1718 and in the 1730s went on a voyage to find the Fountain of Youth. Following Blackbeard's death on this voyage, the ship was claimed by one Captain Hector Barbossa who had killed the pirate.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales[]

The Queen Anne's Revenge makes another appearance in this dubiously cannon instalment of the films.

Appearances and allusions[]

Tortuga Tavern[]

A mural of Blackbeard appears in this tavern-themed restaurant run by Jack's old crew-mate Arabella "Bell" Smith. Blackbeard is listed in a book of customers as Edward Teach with crew-mates such as his daughter Angelica also being mentioned.[1]

Connections[]

Atlantis: The Lost Empire[]

In an unused draft for Atlantis: The Lost Empire, it would have been revealed that Milo and Thaddeus Thatch were in-fact descendants of Edward Thatch, Blackbeard. In the final film they retain the Thatch surname meaning that this very likely might still be the case.

Haunted Mansion[]

In this attraction Madame Leota is the name of the clairvoyant responsible for materializing and summoning the spirits of the Mansion. The spell she uses can be found on pages 1312-1313 in her spell-book along with the words, "Kree Kruh Vergo Gaba Kalto Kree", the same words written by Aldetha Teach used to bring Blackbeard back from death.

Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar[]

Blackbeard and Angelica Teach are both referenced in this bar as having been past business-affiliates of Trader Sam.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The Queen Anne's Revenge is likely the inspiration for the Wicked Wench.
    • The Wicked Wench in the attraction flies a Jolly Roger supposedly used by the Queen Anne's Revenge in real-life history.
