S. is the initial of a character referenced in Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar.

History

Backstory

"S." was an affiliate of aviator Jock Lindsey during the 20th century who had some professional connection to dinosaurs. At one point in time, Jock seemingly saved S.'s life by using his aviation skills to rescue him from an unidentified island, likely during a disastrous event. In gratitude for this, S. left Jock in possession of a Tyrannosaurus-Rex tooth which Jock mounted in his Hangar Bar in the town of Disney Springs, Florida.

Development history

S. is an allusion to filmmaker Steven Spielberg (1946-present) who directed the first four Indiana Jones films. This note was reportedly created and left in the bar by Spielberg in tribute to Jock Lindsey's actor Fred Sorenson. The note from S. references Hurricane Iniki which struck Kauaʻi in 1992 when Spielberg was filming Jurassic Park (1993). At Spielberg's request, Sorenson piloted a helicopter to the island during the hurricane and rescued the film's crew.

The tyrannosaurus-rex tooth and allusion to, "The island" further reference the film Jurassic Park (and by affiliation the 1990 science fiction novel by Michael Crichton of which it is based). In the story of Jurassic Park, a wealthy man named John Hammond and his company InGen create a theme-park called Jurassic Park on the island of Isla Nublar, west of Costa Rica. Using DNA splicing and dinosaur blood preserved in amber, InGen creates hybrid clones of dinosaurs in the 1990s only for a combination of poor design, a hurricane and industrial sabotage to cause the dinosaurs to be let loose in 1993. The dinosaurs traversed across the island causing mass death and destruction with few escaping.

There is a note from, "S." in Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar which has the note, "Thanks for getting me off the island -S". The note is kept in a glass case with a Tyrannosaurus-Rex tooth, presumably gifted from S. to Jock.

Trivia

• There are theories exist regarding the identity of, "S." in the Indiana Jones/Disney Parks lore. Amongst these identifications include:
  • Archaeologist: It is possible that S. might simply be a palaeontologist though this would not explain the island incident.
  • Fictionalized Spielberg: It is very likely that, "S." refers to a fictional character based on Stephen Spielberg who was active and affiliated with Jock during his career in the 1920s-1950s.
  • Indiana Jones dinosaur adventures:
    • Spielberg's original plans for Temple of Doom would have been an adaptation of the Lost World and follow Jones fighting dinosaurs in a hidden valley. This story is presumably non-cannon but may have some relation to S.'s history.
    • In the novel Indiana Jones and the Dinosaur Eggs, Indiana Jones happens upon the last living triceratops in the Gobi desert of Mongolia in the year 1933. There are however no T-Rex featured in this story nor any apparent figure who would be connected
  • Jurassic Park: According to this theory, Jurassic Park or some variant of it exists in the Indiana Jones/Disney Parks continuity due to its connection to Indiana Jones via Steven Spielberg. In this scenario, "S." was likely an employee of Jurassic Park and InGen who Jock Lindsey saved from the island's dinosaurs when they were set free the June of 1993. However, Jock would have been around 89 years old during this time based off the age of his actor and inspiration, Fred Sorensen. It could also be possible that S. was saved from the island during an earlier incident with InGen and its dinosaurs. In film continuity, InGen first travelled to the island in 1985 but this could be different if it exists in Indiana Jones cannon.
  • Steven Spielberg: It is possible that Jock saved the actual filmmaker Steven Spielberg from Kauaʻi in 1992 during Hurricane Iniki. However, once again Jock would have been around 89 when the hurricane struck.
