History[]
Backstory[]
This was originally the Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Lost & Found which assisted guests in finding objects left behind from the Jungle Cruise. Around 1938, JNC president left the lost & found under the care of her friend and business-affiliate Trader Sam. Sam would go on to transform the lost & found into a makeshift gift-shop to make himself and the JNC revenue from stealing these found goods.
Development history[]
Trader Sam's Gift Shop was a replacement for the original vignettes which featured Trader Sam or Chief Nah-mee selling shrunken heads to guests. This was integrated as part of a 2021 refurbishment which aimed at removing racial stereotyping from the Jungle Cruise. Story editor Kevin Lively came up with the idea while working as a cast-member at Tarzan's Treehouse and imagining a story where skippers would turn the JNC's lost & found into a gift-shop.[1]
